In fact, many of the families in our community don’t have the financial stability to take care of a $400 crisis, and would be forced to make life-altering sacrifices. That means just $400 could be the difference between security and unemployment, homelessness or starvation. When families are in a once-in-lifetime crisis, we need to be there to help get them back on track.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

AltaMed’s Direct Relief Fund provides immediate financial assistance for patients in these life-altering crises.

Last year, we fulfilled 75% of emergency requests for direct relief, but patient needs are rapidly growing.

In 2021, we provided more than $122,000 in funds to our patients. However, due to limited funds we were unable to award 25% of the money requested by our patients in greatest need.

AltaMed’s ability to address upstream risk factors of health will exponentially benefit our patients’ quality of life and their ability to maintain good health. Families will have an invaluable safety net when it’s most needed.

AltaMed’s human services work, funded with philanthropic support from employees and community members, is nowhere near the volume needed to meaningfully address these systemic issues that are more widespread than ever as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to limited funds, 25% of patient requests can’t be awarded. We want to be able to fund 100% of requests so our patients and their families can continue to grow healthy. To date, the AltaMed team has donated almost $1M to the fund – but the need is much greater.
