Equity

While the pandemic continues to evolve, it is clear that the economic, societal and medical recovery of the greater Southern California region is vastly uneven, compounding long-standing inequities with what is now a years-long health crisis.

THE CURRENT CRISIS

Today, our communities are worse off in nearly every way than they were before the pandemic.

At AltaMed, we believe that your ZIP code should not be the primary determinant of your health. As we rebuild, we need to reinforce the strengths of our communities, giving all families access to affordable care with quality physicians and facilities.

Unfortunately, many of our patients still encounter obstacles to receiving quality care, including:

TRANSPORT

Lack of transportation or physical means to access health and human services

POVERTY

Poverty and lack of adequate insurance coverage

ACCESS

Healthcare education, literacy, and lack of internet access

CULTURAL COMPETENCE

Lack of culturally competent care

We cannot begin to address a patient’s health without first acknowledging the environments in which they live.

The work we do in our clinics is just the tip of the iceberg. AltaMed must champion a thoroughly comprehensive approach to achieve meaningful and lasting impact in people’s lives.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

AltaMed prides itself on being a healthcare provider created by its community, for its community, offering care that is attuned to the diverse needs of its patients. Our community’s health will only truly improve when we provide accessible, equitable care and actively work to eliminate the social determinants of health.

WITH YOUR SUPPORT, ALTAMED WILL MAKE TARGETED INVESTMENTS IN MEASURES OF EQUITY, INCLUDING:

BETTER ACCESS
TO CARE

Providing electronic devices to patients will allow them to communicate with care coordinators and schedule medical appointments for family members.

NEW STANDARDS IN
CULTURAL COMPETENCE

Expanded recruitment and training of culturally competent medical providers who understand and can communicate with patients, will lead to more consistent and effective care.

ENCOURAGING PATIENTS
TO VOTE AND ADVOCATE

Encouraging patients to vote and become civically active will influence the selection and priorities of elected representatives.

SUPPORTING FUTURE NURSES

The world needs nurses now more than ever. Providing a transformational education to future nurses via the AltaMed Nursing School Collaborative, in partnership with the University of La Verne and the Annenberg School of Nursing, is creating ladders of opportunity for future nurses

It’s time to provide the support that our communities have been desperately needing for so long.

Here’s where you can donate to AltaMed and help us continue supporting those most in need.

We are working to combat health disparities and empower communities to stay happy and healthy for generations to come, but we need the support of our donors to maximize impact and longevity. Your generous support will directly help us address disparities in our communities.

One-time gifts are welcome, but ongoing gifts will help even more. Donating once will positively impact one family, but your ongoing support will change the lives of thousands.
